I made a rooster wall hanging using freezer paper and a raw edge applique technique. I have a metal rooster wall piece that I used as a template for my drawing.

I cut out the pieces based on color value. I used fabric scraps by Kaffe Fassett.

I ironed the paper pattern onto a piece of fabric and then cut out the shape. I peeled off the freezer paper and set the piece back onto the drawing

Once I was happy with the layout, I ironed all the pieces to the background fabric and then zigzagged each piece in place with my domestic machine.

I made a quilt sandwich— the top and black backing fabric with a piece of batting in between. I loaded it on my quilting frame for edge to edge quilting.

I quilted this on my longarm machine with the pattern called Hexies from Urban Elementz.

I thought the hexies resembled chicken wire.
