I am a member of Winchester Modern Quilters and our group was given an opportunity to exhibit our quilts at the 2025 Road2VA Quilt Show in June. Our group chose to show a previous quilt challenge that was done in 2021. New members (me!) were given the opportunity to submit one as well. I had 3 weeks to complete the task!
-
The guidelines to the MOD/POP challenge were to create a two color quilt with gray and one other color of the quilter’s choice - the POP color. The gray had to be the background and the POP color had to be in the shape of a triangle. I went through several designs and finally settled on an old favorite, the Log Cabin. I used the triangle Log Cabin element from Irene Roderick’s “Dancing With The Wall” and built it out from there.
-
I used a variation of log sizes to add interest.
-
I pieced in the gray background and traced out the final size with chalk.
-
I used my domestic machine with a walking foot to do a point to point quilting technique for the center triangle.
-
The finished center triangle!
-
I used my domestic machine with a walking foot to quilt straight lines for the remaining triangles.
-
I used a string and a marking pen to draw out the circle quilting pattern at measured distances. I ended up adding another set of circles for denser quilting.
-
I finished the quilt with a clean faced mitered edging.
-
The edging is on and held in place until it can be stitched down by hand on the back.
-
The edge is complete along with a custom label.

Quilted back with a label and hanging sleeve.
