Turnabout Granny Squares
-
This quilt pattern is called Turnabout Granny Squares by Missouri Star Quilt Company.
I used jelly roll strips called Voysey from V&A archves for Moda Fabrics.
-
The background fabric is called Paprika from Kona Cotton. Each strip set has one Paprika strip and 3 print strips sewn together.
One set is made with the Paprika strip in the first row. Another strip set is made where the Paprika strip is in the second row. Each set is cut to 2 1/2”.
-
The strips are cut and stacked to keep them organized.
-
I laid out each patch with a little help from Violet.
-
A complete 16 patch quilt block.
-
The quilt block is cut in half on the diagonal. Four of these triangles are put together to form one Granny Square.
-
The four triangles are turned and sewn together to make one Granny Square.
-
I put the completed blocks on the design wall.
-
Before I sewed the blocks together, I put a sashing in between the blocks along with a cornerstone in the middle.
-
The backing fabric is called Light Rust Landcaster Leaf Vine by Moda Fabrics.
-
I quilted this on my longarm machine using several different quilt patterns. I set David’s Knot into each Granny Square. I quilted the sashing with Dresden Feathers and the cornerstones with the Mexican Star. The border is quilted with Celtic Sashing. All of these patterns are from My Creative Stitches.
-
David’s Knot was quilted in each Granny Square.
-
I quilted the sashing with Dresden Feathers.
-
I put a traditional binding on this quilt. You can see the Celtic Sashing quilting in the border.
