Friendship Star
-
My daughter asked me to make her a Friendship Star quilt. There are many variations so I mapped out this one based on a quilt that we had.
-
I drew out a group of blocks to find some good color combinations.
-
She chose a pink and brown combination, all solids. The cotton colors are called Peony, Biscuit, Earth and Natural. I made a sample block to use for reference.
-
The quickest way to sew these blocks together is by chain piecing. You sew like pieces together assembly line style.
-
Lots of pressing and now down to sewing 2 sections together to get one block that measures 9 1/2” square.
-
I made a total of 56 blocks. There were 1,568 pieces to sew together.
-
Once the blocks were sewn together in a 7 x 8 grid, I added 3 borders in Earth, Natural and Peony.
-
The backing is called High Summer Flower Show by Liberty Fabrics.
-
I used Berry Ice thread by Superior.
-
I quilted this with my longarm using an edge to edge pattern called Lilac from Urban Elementz.
-
I finished this quilt with a traditional binding on my domestic machine.
