Violet FPP

To get out of a sewing funk this summer, I decided to try a different patchwork piecing called Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP). I chose several patterns from Happysewluckyshop on Etsy. Once I downloaded the pattern, I printed it out on a newsprint like paper. I also watched one of her helpful YouTube videos here.

The pattern breaks up the block into several sections. It was a bit confusing at the start because it seems as if you are sewing the block in reverse. You sew the sections with the paper side up in the machine. Read more about FPP here.

Once you have all the sections complete, you sew them together. Also, this is a great way to use up scrap fabric and you can customize the colors to match your favorite cat (which is Violet btw)!

This is the backside of the block after it's been sewn together. You can see that each section is well marked. Each section is numbered in the order in which each piece is added. You sew on the solid lines. Once the block is complete, you tear the paper off.

Violet stopped by to check out her portrait in fabric!
